Washington Irving
Washington Irving (Nueva York 1783-Tarrytown 1859), considerado el padre del relato norteamericano, residió en España de 1826 a1829 y de 1842 a 1846 (como embajador de Estados Unidos). Entre sus libros dedicados a España destaca Cuentos de la Alhambra (1832). De sus obras, las más interesantes son Historia de Nueva York (1809) (el pseudónimo que usó, Knickerbocker, se convirtió en sinónimo de neoyorquino) y Apuntes de Geoffrey Crayon (1849).
Regarded as the father of American narrative, Washington Irving (New York 1783-Tarrytown 1859) lived in Spain from 1826 to 1829 and from 1842 to 1846 (during which time he held the position of US ambassador to Spain). Amongst the books he wrote about the country, Tales of the Alhambra (1832) is perhaps the best known. His most interesting works include History of New York (1809) (his pen name, Knickerbocker, came to refer to anyone coming from New York) and Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon (1849).
