Niceto Alcalá Zamora (Priego 1877-Buenos Aires 1949) was a minister of Garcia Prieto's governments in 1917 and 1922. During the Primo de Rivera dictatorship he changed his allegiance to the republican side. Appointed provisional President of Spain in 1931, he resigned because he was opposed to the anticlerical character of the republican constitution. However, he was elected constitutional President of the Spanish Republic later that year. He was deposed in 1936, and went into exile to Argentina, where he remained until his death in 1949.
