Juan Álvárez Mendizábal (Cádiz 1790-1753) pertenecía a una humilde familia de origen judío, prosperó de manera que pudo financiar la sublevación de Riego y en el restablecimiento en el trono de María II de Portugal. Presidente de Gobierno de 1835 a 1836, es sobre todo conocido por la Desamortización de bienes de las ordenes religiosas.
Juan Álvárez Mendizábal (Cadiz 1790-1853) belonged to a humble family of Jewish origin, but prospered to the extent that he financed Riego's uprising and the re-establishment of Maria II to the Portuguese throne. President of the government between 1835 and 1836, he is particularly renowned for having decreed the confiscation of assets owned by religious orders.
