José María "El Tempranillo" (Jauja, Córdoba ca. 1800-ca. 1833) representó como ningún otro el modelo de bandolero galante que roba a los ricos para dárselo a los pobres. Escritores románticos como Merimée o Ford le hicieron famoso en toda Europa. Grazalema fue protagonista de muchas de sus hazañas y, en ella, murió su mujer y nació su hijo. Indultado en 1832, pasó a servir a la Corona en la persecución del bandolerismo, muriendo en una emboscada.
José María "El Tempranillo" (Jauja, Cordoba circa 1800- circa1833) was the archetype of the gallant bandolero who stole from the rich to give to the poor. Romantic writers like Merimée and Ford made him famous throughout Europe. Grazalema was the setting of many of his adventures and it was there that his wife died and his son was born. Pardoned in 1832, he then worked under the service of the Spanish Crown in the persecution of bandoleros and died in an ambush.
