Averroes, Abul Walid Muhammad ibn Rusd, (Córdoba, 1126-Marraquech, 1198), medico y filósofo, fue cadí de Sevilla y Córdoba. Intentó conciliar la filosofía aristotélica con el pensamiento musulmán. Acusado como hereje en 1195, murió desterrado. Su obra influyó decisivamente en la filosofía europea y, sobre todo, en la Escolástica. Sin embargo, en oriente, su influencia fue nula.
Averroes, Abul Walid Muhammad ibn Rusd, (Cordoba, 1126-Marrakkesh, 1198), doctor and philosopher, was cadí of Seville and Cordoba. He tried to reconcile the Aristotelian system of thought with Islam. Accused of heresy in 1195, he died in exile. His work had a decisive influence on European philosophy, especially on the scholastic philosophers. However, his influence in the East was non-existent.
