Abderramán III
Abderramán III (891-961) fue emir de Córdoba en el 912 y, desde el 929, el primer califa de Córdoba. Acabó con la anarquía en la que se encontraba Al-Andalus y la transformó en un potente reino que mantuvo su hegemonía sobre los reinos cristianos de la península. Con él, Córdoba se convirtió en la más importante y avanzada ciudad de occidente. Abderramán mandó construir la magnificente Medina Azahara como residencia palaciega y como símbolo de si poder.
Ab’derraman III (891-961) became Cordoba’s Emir in 912 and, from 929, was the first Caliph of Cordoba. He put an end to the anarchic situation of Al-Andalus which he transformed into a powerful kingdom, thereby allowing it to maintain its hegemony over the Christian kingdoms of the Peninsula. During his rule, Cordoba became the most important and learned city in the western world. Abdurrahman ordered the construction of the magnificent Medina Azahara, a palatial residence which became a symbol of his power.
